Telederm is provided through a secure online portal through the Ontario Telehealth Network. Appointments are very similar to a regular appointment, only in addition to an examination, doctors/nurses take digital photographs of skin conditions, along with any relevant background information. These images and information are then forwarded electronically to a dermatologist. The dermatologist responds within 2-3 business days with either a diagnosis and treatment, or a recommendation that the patient is referred to a local dermatologist. The purpose of telederm is to decrease the number of patients being referred to specialist, and getting the care they require in the primary care setting.
